Dear Mumpreneur,

When I left my international executive career to give birth to my first child…I never imagined that in less than 5 years, I’d bury a baby, be the sole provider of my family, embroiled in an emotionally draining legal battle, witnessing escalating credit card debt and served home repossession papers. 

This wasn’t my vision of motherhood!  I was frustrated, alone, exhausted…and desperate to find a way to secure the future of my young family.

Then one day it happened…I made a decision that transformed my life.  And while I knew much of what was going on in my life wasn’t right or fair…I knew the future of my young daughters depended on me honouring this decision. 

The fact is, it’s tough taking steps to change the direction of your life.  You’re a busy mum, organising the kids, getting them off to school, rushing to work…only to return home where it all begins again.  Emptying out lunch boxes, sifting through paperwork, making sure the kids do their homework, preparing dinner and rushing through the laundry.

And the scary part is, it seems like everyone depends on you to get things done, like the whole world is riding on your shoulders. 

But at some stage you’ve got to ask yourself, if you can’t find time today to change your life, when will you?  If not today then when?  

So it happened!  I made a life changing decision which took me on a journey to become a Mumpreneur committed to accelerating the achievement of the personal and professional goals of other Mumpreneurs.  Not only has this altered the course of my life and the future of my children it has enabled me to touch the lives of women and children around the world.   

 

To commemorate what would have been my baby boy’s 10th birthday, in 2009 I created Tate’s Chance, which raises money for mother and child based charities around the world.  Despite the amazing medical treatment I received while pregnant with Tate, he was too sick and weak to survive birth.  So while nothing could be done to change Tate’s fate, together we can do something to improve the survival chances of other babies.  It’s this compassion and support of others that makes us successful Mumpreneurs.
